Sexagesimal System
Monetary system in which the principal unit is divided into 60 parts. The oldest system in the Western World was based on the gold talent of 60 minae and the mina of 60 shekels. In medieval Europe 60 groschen were worth a fine mark; in England from 1551, the silver coinage was based on the crown of 60 pence, and in the south German states until 1873 the gulden was worth 60 kreuzers.
